Hey!
This is a short note to let you all know I love you and thank you for giving me an amazing year as a technical writer. Your continued support, insightful comments, and overall good vibe have made this the best year yet in my journey as a science communicator.
Thanks to you, I've written over 150 articles so far, and close to 300 pages in half a dozen technical topics that are coming together as technical ebooks in 2025—one on graph theory, one on language models, one on computer science fundamentals, and a few surprises I'm hoping to share with you as soon as possible.
This year we grew up from less than 2000 to more than 5000 readers! I got hundreds of comments, thousands of likes, and tens of thousands of views. Nearly two hundred of you have become early supporters of one or more.of my upcoming books. All in all, it has been a great year.
In 2025, I want to double down on writing. I think I've found a pacing, style, and mindset that lets me write consistently and affordably without sacrificing too much on quality. I have many topics I want to explore, from foundational computer science to AI applications. And all of it 100% free, as all of my past articles.
I also plan to make even more collaborations, both in and out of Substack. Writing is much more fun when done with a friend, as almost everything else, and I'm lucky to have found a good chunk of virtual friends among the technical writing community in this corner of the Internet.
In 2025, I also want to try a couple of alternative channels, from chats to live video to cohort-based courses to one-on-one mentoring. In any case, open, long-form technical writing will remain my primary form of expression.
But more than anything, I hope 2025 to be even more exciting and eventful than 2024. We are going through a massive technological disruption that promises to change a lot of our most cherished conceptions—and not all of it for the better. If anything, it's gonna be interesting as hell, I bet you.
So here is my toast for a mostly harmless 2025, hoping your deepest dreams become closer to reality, and that if you can't get what you want, at least you get a little bit of what you need.
Thank you all for an incredible 2024, and see you again in 2025,
Alex.
Looking forward to what you have in store for us in 2025
