Hey!

I just turned on paid subscriptions. Don't worry; I will never put any educational content behind a paywall. I firmly believe that free, high-quality education is crucial in solving our world's biggest problems. This short post will tell you my intentions with subscriptions and maybe convince some of you to upgrade.

There are three things I love doing professionally: education, research, and innovation. Writing for this substack is a big part of my love for education, and I will keep doing it regardless of its cost, as I've done so far. However, occasionally, I have to do things I don't love as much to be able to afford to do the things I love. I'm sure you do too.

Thus, the fundamental reason for turning on paid subscriptions is to trade some of that time doing things I don't love for time doing more of this, writing free and high-quality (I hope) educational content.

Every paid subscriber takes away a bit of that load and helps me improve this newsletter for everyone else.

But, of course, I can't simply ask more of you without giving something in return. So here's the deal. By signing up as a paid subscriber, you'll get prioritized attention from me, which in practice means:

Get everything in your inbox 2 weeks before it goes public, so your comments and questions are prioritized, and always get a thoughtful and responsible answer from me (to the extent of my knowledge and expertise).
Access a private Discord channel (you’ll get the link in the welcome email) for more direct interaction. I'll be available as much as possible to help you with the few topics I'm knowledgeable about.
Receive weekly insider-only posts, which include early drafts and sneak peeks of my upcoming articles, discussions, and comments on recent topics of your interest, polls, and other means for you to help me decide what to write about next.
Plus, you'll get my eternal gratitude! ❤️❤️❤️

So basically, the deal is this: I will keep writing about what I love, free for everyone, but you'll get a saying on what and how I write. Maybe you want me to dive into some specific topics, or maybe you want a one-on-one chat to learn something new, or something else.

If that sounds enticing to you, I'm happy to offer you this limited lifetime 50% discount just because you're already here, and that means a lot to me!

I don't like talking about money too much, so I'll be out of your way now. Whether you decide to upgrade or not, I'll keep writing for you with the same passion. You are the reason this newsletter exists.

Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you stick around. See you!
