I found you because of Twitter. As a consumer, you might not like it. But as producer, being active on as many platforms as possible would increase the amount of people you touch and would enable more people to find you and your work easily.
Indeed the serendipity part of Twitter seemed to have vanished. It is though a great example of many things that would have gone unnoticed if Elon hadn't bought Twitter. We learned about the Institution-Tech censoring complex, how the reach can be twicked and used to shape conversations (a bit like gravity that has an effect on light), and lately how the fight against robot produced another instance of click farming (you make the account to pay -> you pay the account to justify it -> click baiting is back with a vengeance on the platform).
I am also on bluesky for few months but lacked the engagement or the life that was in Twitter, like a nice desert... Well we will see how it unfolds.
Sorry if you've addressed this elsewhere but, in terms of decentralised platforms, why Bluesky over Mastodon? Particularly if the concern is in part the behaviour of technocrats?
Yeah that was my issue at first though I've found it quite lively now - had to kind of give up on porting my network across and just create a new one. It helped to have some interest in cybersecurity as that seems a very active community there, open-source and philosophy communities too.
Nah, I left Facebook a long time ago when it was overrun by nazis and blatantly promoted ethnical cleansing. I never understood Instagram, and even less after learning how they target insecure teenage girls and feed them shit. If that's the kind of people who run Threads, I don't want anything to do with them.
I completely understand and respect this view. I'm not a fan of Dorsey- I think he set the initial conditions that paved the way for Musk's takeover and eventual hellscapifiction - but he doesn't seem to have that much influence at Bluesky at present, so that's good.
I feel the exact same way about Threads. Not my vibe, but useful for now.
I don't like public FB at all, but I still interact a bit with groups, especially secret or private ones. None of it is ideal, though, and far from it. If I could get what I needed elsewhere (connection with those individuals, including members at my gym), I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Thanks, Praveen. You're right, and it makes me really sad, but... ah... principles, what a nasty little thing.
I agree. There is something wonderful about living by principles, whatever the cost.
Have very few, very strong principles. That's my motto.
I'm sad that you are leaving Twitter. We need more sensible voices there.
Thanks man. But I'm afraid the sensible voices are just talking to each other.

Yeah Bluesky is slow but kind of in a nice way.... Like when you purposely stop, I don't know, drinking caffeine.

Fair point. I'm on Mastodon too. That was my first choice. But it's kinda empty, at least my timeline. But yeah, I hope it would catch on.

I'll have to give it a try again then :)
Twitter is dead. Ever think about hopping on Threads? I have an IG account for just that purpose.

I don't feel too optimistic about Bluesky, but it's where the majority of the nice people I used to follow moved to, so...
