Seems to me there are three scenarios in teaching:
1. teaching kiddies
2. teaching a class who mostly don't want to be there.
3. teaching a class who do want to be there.
I've done a bit (only a bit) of no 3 which is the easiest one (I assume this is you too).
But in all cases, the first thing, like so many areas in life, is to create the right expectation.
Here in the UK, for years they've just tried to save money. Schools are practically falling down. A quick Google found "300-400 schools a year might need crumbling buildings repaired. The Treasury agreed to fund repairs for only 100 a year," If your school is delapidated and scruffy it shows that society doesn't think education is important and kids will pick up on this. At least get the PTA to band together and give it a lick of paint.
You're absolutely right. I've done mostly number 3 as well, and a little bit of number 1 recently, but yeah, I can't imagine teaching high schoolers who don't want to be taught.
Great article, great insights!
Thanks :)
Very interested in practices and tools :)
Thanks! I'll share my experiences there though there's nothing terribly interesting I'm afraid.
Loved it
Thanks 🙏
